The competition kicks off immediately following the Microsoft event with registration open until June 30th and final designs due by July 30th. Top designs will be showcased in a downtown Seattle art gallery in early August, with the three best designs earning a share of the $10,000 prize. Designs will be evaluated on concept, user experience, visual design, and the utilization of unique features in Windows 8 such as Contracts, Live Tiles and Semantic Zoom.

The Metro design language affords designers ample latitude to create really beautiful, immersive experiences that each have their own personality. In the coming months we expect to see some very cool and inspiring Windows 8 app designs, the contest aims to showcase some of this great work.” Whitman said.
