Consilium Staffing has seen an increased demand for primary care physicians and is excited to announce the creation of their Primary Care team focused exclusively on locum tenens staffing for primary care specialties.
“We are very excited about this new team with an exclusive focus on meeting the primary care needs of our clients,” said Matt Baade, Vice President of Consilium Staffing. “Carving out a team with a single focus, allows us to have a better understanding of the needs of our primary care clients and providers. Which in turn will allow us to increase our efficiency in making matches between these clients and providers.”
The new Primary Care team will focus on internal medicine, pediatrics, family practice, and urgent care. “There is a tremendous shortage and therefore a tremendous need for providers in these primary care specialties. Creating this new team helps Consilium further meet this demand,” said Baade.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported, the overall physician shortfall is expected to be 150,000 physicians over the next 15 years with the greatest demand for primary care. Furthermore, “the U.S. has 352,908 primary-care doctors now…with estimates that 45,000 more will be needed by 2020. But the number of medical-school students entering family medicine fell more than a quarter between 2002 and 2007.”
The American Association of Medical Colleges stated that the problem is expected to worsen as U.S. population increases and ages. “The number of people over age 65 is expected to double between 2000 and 2030. It therefore becomes imperative to have an increasing supply of primary care physicians who are trained in managing these conditions together and able to work in concert with other health care professionals.”
“Our goal is to serve our clients in the best possible way and to be a true partner in the locum tenens industry. The creation of this new team is an example of how Consilium will continue to ensure that we meet the needs of our partner facilities and providers,” said Baade.
The term, "locum tenens" is a Latin phrase that means to "hold the place of." Consilium Staffing assists hospitals, primary care offices, urgent care centers, correctional institutions, and other healthcare facilities, when those facilities are under-staffed by partnering with physicians, nurse practitioners, and/or physician assistants who are able to provide coverage on a temporary or contract basis.
