The MediRoutes application was recently updated, using Microsoft cloud-based software and smartphone technologies to offer optimal scheduling, booking, dispatch and billing services.
In late 2010, the existing MediRoutes application was completely rewritten using the latest Microsoft cloud-based software development technology and the Microsoft Windows 7 smartphone for complete field force automation. Using these state of the art tools resulted in the current version of MediRoutes and offers easy online call taking - trip booking through import of brokerage trips or direct entry of on demand trips. Recurring, also known as Calendar or Subscription trip, reservations are also supported.
The current version of MediRoutes offers optimized scheduling – taking into account the patient requirements (ambulatory, wheel chair or stretcher), the transport vehicle’s capacity, appointment time, drive time and funding source requirements or limitations.
MediRoutes provides real-time dispatching and sends the driver’s manifest to driver’s phones in a HIPPA compliant environment, with a real-time GPS location of each vehicle and driving time and distance to scheduled pickups and drop offs. Real-time updates to the drivers and the dispatchers show where the drivers are at all times, real-time GPS coordinates and time stamps of each pick up and drop off performed with signature capture of the passenger at the time of service.
MediRoutes offers automated billing and reporting, all delivered in a SaaS (Software as a Service) model – web/internet based application– no client/server applications to purchase and maintain.

MediRoutes’ 1st major client was Handi-Car, Inc. in Tucson, Arizona. Handi-Car provides over 1,100 trips a day to clients with various needs. Prior to implementing MediRoutes, Handi-Car was using paper and pencil and a push to talk radio. Each night, special dispatchers would work hours late into the evening trying to figure out the most cost effective routes for their clients the next day. They had to factor in the number of vehicles that would be on the road that day, what time the client’s appointment was, how much drive time they should allow for and any special considerations for the individual clients: was the client wheelchair or stretcher bound, have any specific medical needs, et cetra. Now they are nearly completely paperless and driver’s manifest are sent direct to their phones in real-time and documented with perform time and GPS locations and client signatures. Since automating with MediRoutes, both the drivers and the riders in the vehicles remark about how peaceful their rides are without all of the push to talk radio chatter.
