The event takes place on June 19-21, 2012, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan in New York City. The esteemed panel of judges includes:

  •     Dan Ciporin, Venture Partner, Canaan Partners
  •     Bruce Taragin, Managing Director, Blumberg Capital
  •     Jorge Espinel, EVP, Strategy and Corporate Development, News Corp

On June 20th, 2012, the DCM East Startup Showcase will bring together 4 start-ups to each make a 10-minute pitch to a judging panel of senior VC and corporate experts, receiving live feedback on their pitch. In last year’s showcase, 3 of the 4 pitching start-ups entered into immediate discussions on funding with VCs.

“The start-up showcase spotlights the most promising early stage companies, from around the globe, at the premier convocation of digital media companies and executives,” said Todd Simon, Head of Digital Media, Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. “For start-ups, the showcase is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for their company to connect with potential strategic partners and mentors, and to pitch an elite group of VCs.”

During the Start-Up Showcase, the room is filled with senior executives at the decision-making level from both the private equity sector and digital SVPs from some of the world’s leading content owners, including CBS, MTV, HarperCollins, Discovery, VEVO, Universal Music, Sony Music, EA, and hundreds more -- all of whom are looking for partners to inject innovation into their offering and routes to market.

“Start-ups are the lifeblood of any industry and they are a vital part of the core foundation to a flourishing economy,” said newly appointed social media conference Chairperson, Founder and President of NVPR, Hal Bringman. “Disruptive start-ups should be embraced by the media industry rather than relegated as misfits. As we work together to solve the monetization puzzle, we should learn from history and remember that the music industry could have had an ‘iTunes’ revenue stream a decade earlier had they not taken the misguided and unprofitable path of litigation.”
