“This agreement advances our ability to deliver textbooks in a more affordable and highly engaging format for schools that wish to move more of their course materials online,” John Squires, CEO of Akademos.

Akademos, Inc., a leading provider of integrated online bookstores and marketplaces for educational institutions, announced today that it is offering access to the 5,200 title library of Cengage Learning’s academic and trade titles for student access through the Akademos CourseReader.

Through the agreement, college students and professors will be able to utilize this vast library of textbooks on any device with a standard web browser. The Akademos CourseReader allows any Akademos member institution to access electronic content from traditional publishers and from open resources, such as the Connexions Consortium, World Public Library and the Guttenberg Project.

“It was an easy decision to add the Cengage Learning library of titles to our eLearning platform,” said John Squires, CEO of Akademos. “This agreement advances our ability to deliver textbooks in a more affordable and highly engaging format for schools that wish to move more of their course materials online.”

Following are some of the key features of the Akademos CourseReader:

  • Ease of use on any device: The Akademos CourseReader uses HTML5 technology to allow teachers and students to utilize their textbooks on any device with a browser.
  • Engaging student features: The Akademos CourseReader allows students to capture and highlight text, capture notes, bookmark pages, search text and enjoy a fully enabled dictionary. All of these activities are saved and associated with the student’s account in the Akademos bookstore.

“Providing schools and students with more affordable solutions is our core mission,” said Brian Jacobs, Founder and President of Akademos. “We are also driving innovations that make organizing course materials easier – allowing students more time to make their learning experiences a success. Our CourseReader is an exciting development that accomplishes both these goals and we’re pleased to be working with Cengage Learning on this important initiative.”
