Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) June 15, 2012
The Matheson Law Office, Pllc, a Raleigh Criminal Defense and DWI Defense Law Firm is happy to announce the addition of Zan Newkirk to their team as the Firm's first Summer Intern. The Internship Program, initially created by Raleigh DWI Attorney M. Moseley Matheson was designed to assist those young people who are interested in expanding their understanding of the judicial system. This program provides insight in the world of both Raleigh Criminal Defense as well as North Carolina Personal Injury Cases. By providing these students access to a fully functional law firm, the interns will be able to get hands-on, practical experience while at the same time discussing various legal matters with a licensed attorney.
The Matheson Law Office's first intern, Zan Newkirk, is a recent graduate from Enloe High School and will be attending Appalachian State University in the Fall. Mr. Newkirk is not new to the world of Trial Practice. Mr. Newkirk is a seasoned youth attorney with the Capital Area Teen Court Program. Through this program, Mr. Newkirk has prosecuted and defended various misdemeanor crimes through Mock Trials coordinated by Teen Court. Mr. Newkirk has demonstrated strong skills in public speaking and case assessments. Additionally, Mr. Newkirk has shown a great ability to think on his feet and address changes to cases as they are being heard. Through his work with the Teen Court Program, Mr. Newkirk was selected to serve as a Youth Attorney on the Capital Area Teen Court Mock Trial Team; which recently took 2nd place in the State.
"Through my time with the Capital Area Teen Court Program, I have had the opportunity to work with many gifted youth attorneys; Mr. Newkirk has stood out as one of the most well-rounded litigators I have had the pleasure to work with." Raleigh Traffic Attorney M. Moseley Matheson stated. "We were very excited to offer this opportunity to Mr. Newkirk. We are confident that Mr. Newkirk's dedication to his clients in Teen Court will carry over to the work he will perform for our firm. Mr. Newkirk will be a great addition to our practice and we hope to be a small part in any potential endeavors he undertakes, whether in the practice of law or not."
Through this program, Mr. Newkirk will learn practical skills by handling several legal research projects. In addition, he will be able to sit in on various activities of the firm's legal team, including observing at least one trial this summer. Finally, Mr. Newkirk will learn some of the requirements necessary to running a successful law practice including marketing, publishing, and case evaluations.
Though Mr. Newkirk will hold the honor of being the first Intern with this program, he certainly will not be the last. The Matheson Law Office, Pllc is accepting applications for internships in the fall. As one of the busy Raleigh Criminal Law Firms in the area, there is plenty of work to go around. It is the hope of the Matheson Law Office, as well as Attorney M. Moseley Matheson that this program will grow into something very valuable to those interns selected to participate.
