Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 14, 2012
The Boston Globe won six national Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). The annual awards honor excellence in electronic journalism, and the winners will be honored at a ceremony in October 2012.
The Globe won online local news operation awards in the following categories: video continuing coverage; video investigative reporting; video reporting: hard news; video sports reporting; use of video; and video: writing.
The award-winning videos include coverage of the capture of James “Whitey” Bulger, the Globe Spotlight Team investigative report on drunk driving acquittals by local judges, and a feature on NBA legend Bill Russell.
“We have talked a lot about how we at the Globe are expanding our multimedia portfolio. These awards make a statement of their own -- just how good our pioneering work in video has been,” Globe Editor Martin Baron said. “We’re honored that the work is being ranked among the best in the country.”
Since 1971, the Edward R. Murrow Awards, named for the legendary broadcast journalist, have been presented for “outstanding achievements in electronic journalism.” The awards are granted by the RTDNA, the world's largest professional organization exclusively serving electronic journalists in radio, television and all digital media.
The Boston Globe also won nine of 10 regional Murrow Awards in April, including one for best online news operation website for BostonGlobe.com, the subscription site that launched in fall 2011.
In addition, the Globe has won 12 Boston/New England Regional Emmy® Awards in the past four years, and in 2010, was nominated for a national Emmy® Award for an online documentary about the late Senator Ted Kennedy.
