Everest Academy Celebrates Graduation Exercises and Student Awards

On Wednesday, June 6, Everest Academy held a Commencement Mass for Everest students and their families, Graduation Exercises for the eighth grade class, and an Awards Ceremony for all students.

On Wednesday, June 6, Everest Academy held a Commencement Mass for Everest students and their families, Graduation Exercises for the eighth grade class, and an Awards Ceremony for all students. Eighth grade graduates, all of whom have attended the Lemont school since preschool, were Peter Diamond of Orland Park, Veronica Kopec of Lemont, Michael Spell of Lemont, and Libby Thomas of Woodridge.

Peter Diamond, son of Dr. Peter and Mrs. Jeanne Diamond of Orland Park, plans to attend St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, and hopes to go into engineering in the future. He was presented with the Athlete, Music, and Technology Awards for his excellence in those areas.

Veronica Kopec, daughter of Mr. Ron and Mrs. Vickie Kopec of Lemont, plans to attend Benet Academy in Lisle, and would like to study medicine in the future. She won awards for Athlete, Catholic Formation, History/Geography, Math, Spanish, Excellence in Conduct, and Leadership.

Michael Spell, son of Mr. Joe and Mrs. Sue Spell of Lemont, plans to attend Lemont High School, and hopes to go into computer engineering some day. He was presented with awards for Perseverance and Effort, and Music, for his outstanding accomplishments in those areas.

Libby Thomas, daughter of Mr. Jerry and Mrs. Rose Thomas of Woodridge, plans to attend Benet Academy in Lisle, and would like to study Criminal Justice in the future. She won awards for Art, English/Language Arts, Science, Spanish, Excellence in Conduct, Apostleship and the Principal’s Award for Academic Excellence. Libby also received the Integer Award, which the school presents each year to the eighth grade graduate who best demonstrates the ideals of leadership and integral formation.

The day also included an Awards Ceremony to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of each student. Awards were given in each subject area, as well as awards for Leadership, Friendship, Apostleship, Excellence in Conduct, Perseverance and Effort. The Principal’s Award for Academic Excellence was granted to students in each grade who demonstrated excellence in academics by obtaining the highest overall grade point average. The Semper Altius Award was given to those students who best lived out the school’s motto, “Always Higher”, and who demonstrated diligence and perseverance through excellence in integral formation.

Recipients of the Principal’s Award for Academic Excellence were: Debbie Cruger (K), Anthony Koch (1), John Beecher (2), Brett Looby (3), Nathan Yep (4), Julia Delgado (5), Alia Akroush (6), James Beecher (7), and Libby Thomas (8).

The Semper Altius Award winners were: John Paul Ramirez (K), Michael Lawler (1), Rachel Yep (2), Cassandra Hamilton (4), Hannah Yep (5), and James Beecher (7).
