Boulder, CO (PRWEB) June 15, 2012
For the 10th consecutive year, Colorado-based companies Renewable Choice Energy (http://www.renewablechoice.com) and Planet Bluegrass (http://www.planetbluegrass.com) are reducing the environmental impact associated with the Telluride Bluegrass Festival by investing in wind power and carbon offsets.
The Festival, now in its 39th year, has developed a reputation as a national leader in voluntary environmental action, working to reduce waste and carbon impact while simultaneously encouraging its more than 10,000 attendees to practice sustainability at the event and at home. This year, the Festival will purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) and verified emission reductions from Renewable Choice to offset 100% of the carbon emissions created by the Festival, which will help prevent over 6.2 million pounds of CO2e from entering the atmosphere, the equivalent of removing 556 passenger vehicles from the road for an entire year.
“At Planet Bluegrass, we’ve been committed to reducing the effects of our festivals on the environment wherever possible and Renewable Choice has helped us understand and tackle our carbon impact along the way—it’s been a tremendous partnership,” said Steve Szymanski, Vice President of Planet Bluegrass.
Planet Bluegrass acquired its first RECs from Renewable Choice in 2003, making a voluntary decision to purchase wind power for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. Since that time, their commitment to “sustainable festivation” has grown to include additional investments in renewable energy, carbon offsets, and sustainability strategy including the first company-wide carbon footprint, conducted in 2011 with the help of Mosaic™, Renewable Choice’s enterprise energy and emissions management platform.
“For the past ten years, Planet Bluegrass has been on the cutting edge of environmental leadership with their festivals and it’s exciting to see the community of artists, sponsors, and Festivarians being inspired to minimize their impacts as well,” said Quayle Hodek, CEO of Renewable Choice. “It has been a pleasure for us to be a Planet Bluegrass partner for the past decade, and we look forward to a continued and prosperous relationship with them in the future.”
