Telecoms World, the UK’s leading supplier of non-geographic 08 and 03 numbers, has been given the green light to provide a telephony solution for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games. The solution, which is due to be implemented on 27th June, will ensure efficient call handling and the provision of valuable real-time call data to teams monitoring and managing call centre performance during the London 2012 games.

The London 2012 Olympics is set to boost the UK economy by 3.5% and provide an additional 17,900 jobs throughout the coming years, and it’s not only the high street brands and big corporates setting the pace. Telecoms World is just one of hundreds of SMEs that will be offering their services during the games. Managing Director Neil Barrall says “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work in partnership with the London Olympic and Paralympic games. This monumental event will be a great opportunity for Telecoms World and the whole of the UK”. The games will be Great Britain’s biggest ever tourism campaign, the Government is hoping to attract 4.6 million more visitors to the capital, £2.3bn in additional visitor-spend, and £1bn of additional investment over the next four years. It’s a promising time for tourism and the economy, but also for the long-term success of those companies involved in this year’s biggest event.

Sebastian Coe, Chair of London 2012, said:

“The London 2012 Games are a real once-in-a-generation opportunity. I'd encourage everyone to join the team and make the most of these Games.”

“It's fantastic to see how many people in the UK and around the world are inspired by, benefiting from and delivering London 2012 and we look forward to having many more join the journey over the next few months.”

The telephony solution provided by Telecoms World during the London 2012 games will offer the following services:

  •     Bespoke announcements
  •     Queue facility
  •     Time of day routing
  •     Live queue information
  •     Ability to upload new wav files via the web

High call volumes are expected during the games and to cope with this demand London 2012 requires a versatile service that allows call centre teams to handle and monitor calls efficiently. Telecoms World has provided a solution that ensures all calls are answered immediately and that an automatic bespoke greeting welcomes the caller before the call is routed to a designated call centre. From here the call is placed in a live queue. If lines get busy, the solution detects high call volumes and places each additional incoming call into a real time queue until a call centre representative becomes available. Not only can the solution handle unlimited call volumes and present on-hold music to callers, but it can also help call centre managers to analyse queue size, longest queue duration and new queue messages via a live online feed.

London 2012 also required a call centre solution that could provide data analysis functionality. To cater for this request, Telecoms World have provided a web-based call statistics package that provides the data required to analyse call handling and monitor performance throughout the London 2012 games.

The Olympics looks set to ignite the economy short-term and long-term. With consumer spend expected to increase by 750M and an immediate economic impact expected over the duration of the games, it’s a promising time for the economy and for hundreds of SMEs lucky enough to be working on site and as a London 2012 partner. As one of the UK’s largest telephony providers, Telecoms World hopes that this collaboration will increase future opportunities for 2012 and beyond.
