Aventura, the company that makes clinicians' work flow, today announced the addition of John-Thomas (Tom) Ngo, PhD, to the executive leadership team. A former leader at Disney Research, Dr. Ngo will drive all technology initiatives in this highly innovative company—with more than 20 patents pending and issued—in a newly created role as the leader of product management and development. Dr. Ngo joins a powerhouse executive team that includes several serial entrepreneurs all focused on the singular goal on improving healthcare through technology.
A highly experienced software executive, Dr. Ngo joins Aventura from Disney Research (Walt Disney Imagineering), where he served as Vice President for three years. Dr. Ngo emphasized customer validation and cross-functional execution to extract maximum commercial value from the portfolio of several hundred research projects. Prior to Disney Research, Dr. Ngo was the Chief Technology Officer at NextPage, an enterprise software company, where he was responsible for product management, product design, and product development, and interacted heavily with customers, the media, and industry analysts. As an Area Director for Interval Research Corporation, Dr. Ngo managed diverse technical teams across software and hardware disciplines. He also personally co-invented in multiple fields, including blind source separation, efficient delivery of broadband media, and synthetic computer animation. His technology innovations have been patented and published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Ngo holds a PhD in Computational Biophysics from Harvard University, where he held a Hertz Fellowship. He holds a BA in Physics and Theoretical Physics from Cambridge University, where he graduated with first-class honors and was awarded the first Sir Neville Mott Prize for best undergraduate thesis in theoretical physics.
“Tom's ability to define a technical vision and tactically execute that vision has allowed him to consistently launch market-validated products,” said Howard Diamond, CEO. “I am excited that Tom is bringing that experience to healthcare IT. With the fresh ideas, knowledge and know-how to execute, he will be instrumental in driving Aventura’s innovation and in changing healthcare for the better.”
Dr. Ngo assumes a new role for Aventura, where he will lead all product management, product design, and product development functions.
“We have an enormous opportunity to improve healthcare by helping clinicians focus on patients instead of technology,” said Dr. Ngo. “I look forward to leading this group of talented and well qualified product management and development teams, and am passionate about working with a diverse executive leadership team that knows how to grow businesses with profound positive social impact.”
