Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (PRWEB) June 14, 2012
Coast2Coast Rx recognized today the one-year anniversary of its free discount prescription card program in Fresno County, a healthcare resource that has saved residents $913,300 since the program’s inception in June 2011. By using the prescription discount card, which is available at pharmacies and other locations throughout the area, consumers saved $128,497 in May 2012 alone.
Fresno’s County Board of Supervisors approved the prescription drug discount card in June of 2011, making it the fourteenth of 22 counties in California to adopt the program. The Coast2Coast Rx card gives residents instant access to discounts of up to 75 percent on more than 60,000 brand name and generic drugs, with a nationwide average savings of 55 percent. Everyone is immediately eligible to use the free plan—it has no restrictions on age, health status or income—and there is no paperwork to fill out. Adding to its convenience, the card is accepted at more than 59,000 pharmacies nationwide, including many chain and independent retailers.
The card is particularly useful to residents who may be uninsured or have high deductibles for medications; as well as seniors, who in some instances will find that the card can be used to offset the Medicare Part D “donut hole.” Through a partner program, cardholders can benefit from significant savings on additional healthcare costs such as vision, dental and hearing products and services, diabetes supplies, lab and imaging services and even certain pet prescriptions, making it a comprehensive resource for healthcare savings.
“The Coast2Coast Rx card is an excellent resource for our constituents,” said County Supervisor Susan Anderson. “We encourage all Fresno County residents to explore the notable benefits of the program to see how it can improve their access to affordable healthcare.”
Coast2Coast Rx continues to expand its work with public departments and local nonprofit agencies to increase awareness and use of the card. With information available in both English and Spanish, residents can pick up a card from the many community and faith-based organizations as well as businesses that carry the cards and informational posters. Organizations and agencies providing social services to underserved populations throughout Fresno’s metro and rural areas are encouraged to request a supply of the bilingual cards to distribute to their consumers.
“As we enter the second year of offering the free discount program in Fresno, our goal is to continue to make the card available to as many consumers as possible to provide an option for health services,” said Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “With increased use of the Coast2Coast Rx program, we can positively impact both individual households and the community at large.”
