Winners were announced at a Gala Dinner hosted at the Grand Villa Hotel and Conference Center in Burnaby on June 5, 2012 as part of this year’s Food Pro West two-day trade show and conference.
Chang was honored with the Rising Star and Innovation Award for his exemplary leadership and contribution to the food processing industry and community. Despite being told that incorporating whole food ingredients into a commercial protein shake or meal replacement wouldn’t work due to limited shelf-life, low product demand, poor taste and texture, and too high a cost, Chang embraced the challenge and successfully launched Vega, formerly Sequel Naturals, in 2001, pioneering the plant-based, natural supplements category.
