Sports, a more “civil” alternative to all-out war and violence, has been the career, passion, and obsession of many people throughout the civilized world. American football is a sterling example of this, with leagues that assemble the most determined and able athletes to do battle in the gridiron. Author and seasoned coach Michael Warren tells a fictional tale of one such athlete who dared to rise above all in Ryan’s Pride, a book made available through Xlibris since September 2011. This book will be featured at the 2012 Illinois Library Association Book Exhibit in Peoria, Ill. on October 9-12, 2012.

This book introduces readers to Ryan Jefferson, who never played a down of college football. As a ‘walk-on’ at the Lions training camp, he turned the heads of fans and coaches alike as he began a journey of discovery and redemption for the city of Detroit. The 22-year-old kid quarterback with the golden arm and brains to match was thrust into the role of savior for a franchise long mired in futility and ridicule. Martin Schulman, a retired high school janitor befriended by Ryan, was presented with a life-altering opportunity, and together they dream of a better society filled with the spirit of integrity, honesty, and personal example for the multitude of disbelievers and the destitute of America.

Made available through Xlibris since September 2011, Ryan’s Pride is a fast-paced, action-packed novel with the bone-crushing realism of smash-mouth football combined with a gentle love story of Ryan Jefferson and his high school sweetheart, making this an irresistible read. Sprinkled with moments of hilarity, the novel takes the reader on a fun-filled adventure through the lives of an unlikely pride of young Lions.
