WHAT: CHI is hosting California: Uniting Science & Policy to Advance Cancer Care at UCLA, generously sponsored by Cedars-Sinai, Onyx Pharmaceuticals and UCLA Institute for Innovation in Health.

WHY: In 2012, nearly 144,800 Californians will be diagnosed with cancer. This is equivalent to more than 16 new cases every hour of every day. This year alone, roughly 55,500 people will die of the disease – about 150 people a day, and one out of every four deaths in California is due to cancer. California is also home to many internationally-renowned oncology research institutions, active and respected patient advocacy groups, as well as companies that are developing the next generation of oncology treatments, with 253 products in the pipeline addressing the second leading cause of death in the state.
