Armed Forces Insurance Chairman Col. Thomas A. Dials (U.S. Army, Ret.) retired after more than 18 years with the organization.

“Armed Forces Insurance Company has prospered under Tom’s leadership. His unique blend of military experience and industry knowledge helped him understand precisely how to address the challenges the military lifestyle presents,” said Lieutenant General Garry L. Parks (U.S. Marine Corps, Ret.), Chairman of the Board of Directors. “The peace of mind our military insurance products and personalized service deliver to armed forces members and their families around the world is a direct reflection of Tom’s many contributions over the past 18 years.”

Col. Dials joined AFI in 1994 as Director of Market Research after a career with the U.S. Army, during which he served in command and staff positions in Vietnam, Germany and the continental United States. Within four years, Dials had ascended to senior vice president, and in 2003 he was elected President and Chairman by the Board of Directors. Col. Dials is a longtime member of AFI, holding a policy since 1971.

Col. Dials’ industry leadership extended to the larger business community, including roles at the Kansas Association of Property and Casualty Insurance Companies (KAPCIC) and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). In late 2011, he received KAPCIC’s Ad Astra Award, recognizing his long-term contribution to the insurance industry. In addition to providing direct support to numerous military charities, Col. Dials hosted an annual fundraising event on behalf of AFI that has raised more than $100,000 for the United Way of Leavenworth County.

“A large part of Tom’s legacy is AFI’s commitment to the service of others — from our members whose financial security we protect, to our employees whose professional growth we encourage, as well as the many military causes AFI supports,” said Chief Executive Officer Kurt Seelbach.
