The media spotlight is often a double-edged sword. No one knows this better than women and babies who suffer from Paxil severe adverse events. And yet, gossip and rumor-mongering aside, the real story here is being overlooked according to Sean Burke of AttorneyOne.
A new study, published on May 2nd, 2012 in the online edition of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, revealed that during pregnancy, second trimester antidepressant use is associated with preterm birth, and third trimester SSRI use (including Paxil) is associated with infant convulsions. Paxil (paroxetine), produced by GlaxoSmithKline and approved in 1992 by the FDA, is an antidepressant drug belonging to a group called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). The study design included data from 228,876 pregnancies that were covered by Tennessee Medicaid from 1995 to 2007.
In July 2010, Bloomberg News reported that a $2.4 billion set aside that GlaxoSmithKline announced earlier to settle outstanding liabilities included the settlement of Paxil birth defect lawsuits brought by parents who said that use of Paxil during pregnancy caused persistent pulmonary hypertension in newborns (PPHN) or other problems for their babies.
AttorneyOne.com, a recognized authority on law, can provide helpful advice and simple solutions including how to get in contact with legal counsel so that, in case of Paxil severe complications, someone can easily and inexpensively deal with it. As Mr. Burke, director of Media Relations for AttorneyOne.com, added, “What all this information really illustrates is that threat from Paxil remains. For that reason, our focus should squarely fall on getting the word out and assisting people in finding the right legal assistance.”
In January 2012, the British Medical Journal published a study revealing that selective SSRIs, including Paxil, are linked to pulmonary hypertension in newborns (PPHN) of mothers who took the drug during pregnancy.
AttorneyOne.com has further information on Paxil lawsuits including how to get in contact with legal counsel.
