If you would like to try your hand at rafting down the Merced or Kings Rivers, you may want to do it in the next couple of days as outfitters are saying the season is wrapping up soon.

“We’re going to wind up probably next week,” said Bob Ferguson with Zephyr Whitewater Expeditions.

“We’re running low-water, half day trips. It’ll probably go four or five more days,” he said. Ferguson cites the lower than average snowfall from the past winter. “We’re having those issues on any river with a natural water flow.”

If that doesn’t fit in to the schedule don’t despair, as rafting on the Tuolomne river will likely last through August.

“Tuolomne’s season is guaranteed through Labor Day weekend. That comes from the Hetch Hetchy system so the water flow is controlled and excellent through the season,” said Ferguson.

OARS, another rafting company that also does excursions on the Tuolomne said they too will be operating on that river through the season, including their multi-day rafting and hiking excursions.

“We offer 1-day Tuolumne rafting options as well as a 2-day and a relaxing 3-day trip which includes side hikes up the river canyon,” according to their online guide.
