Fullerton, CA (PRWEB) June 18, 2012
Saturday, June 23, Secret City Comics Society will celebrate their first year of business by thanking its fans and future fans with a special "birthday party" show during the 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. shows. The show will not only include their unique brand of improvisational comedy, where comedic scenes are created based on suggestions from the audience and the shows are appropriate for all ages, but also include birthday cake and a raffle for fans in attendance.
"Comedy shows, like ours, exist only because of our fans," says Alan Ng, Creative Director of Secret City Comics Society. "The cast has worked hard to produce a show that is not only funny, but broad enough to appeal to a wide range of audiences. This night is a way for us to thank of our fans for their generous support."
Secret City Comics Society is the brain child of General Manager Bryan Shigekawa and Director Ng. "Our philosophy is simple, we can make you laugh without swearing, cursing or being inappropriate. This is not a children's show by any means, but you can bring your children. In fact, you can bring anyone, your social group, church group, a blind date, even your parents without fear of anyone feeling uncomfortable. Clean comedy when done right can be cutting edge like the comedy you find on television or comedy clubs," says Ng. "Our job is to create comedic scenes by portraying every day situations and giving it a comic twist. It's like watching your own life on stage but turned on its head."
The past year was filled with many honors that even surprised us. In December 2011, Secret City Comics Society was named the Best Improv Group of Orange County by the publication, OC Weekly. "We were pleasantly shocked," says Shigekawa. "We didn't even know about it until two weeks after the fact and most interestingly, it was not based on a fan vote, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our cast."
Along with their regular weekly show, Secret City Comics Society performed for the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce, various local churches and for private parties. SCCS also helped build and support student run improv comedy shows at Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton and La Habra High School. They hope to expand this program next year to other Orange County schools.
"Along with the loyalty of our fans, Secret City Comics Society would not exist without our talented and dedicated cast," says Ng. Secret City Comics Society's current cast is Alexa James, Amy Valdez, Audrey Grace, Cody Wallace, Daniel Eachus, Dimithri Perera, Eugene McDonald, Jared Lomeli, Jessica Lowerre, Joey Shope, Keegan Lund, Leah Burnette, Loren Kling, Manuel Ortiz, Melissa Kirkpatrick, Michael Garate, Rocco Ambrosio, Rocky Balboa, Sam Dee, Sarah Brooks and Tom Haggard.
