Sterling, VA (PRWEB) June 19, 2012

Neustar, a trusted, neutral provider of real-time information and analysis to the Internet, telecommunications, entertainment and marketing industries, today announced that SiteProtect, its Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation service added more than half a million domains to its list of protected sites in the first quarter of 2012. SiteProtect was launched by Neustar to address the growing demand for DDoS mitigation—as cited in a DDoS report issued in February by the company—thereby helping to ensure optimal site uptime and revenue opportunities.

DDoS attacks render websites and other Internet-connected infrastructure inaccessible by unleashing extremely high volumes of malicious Internet traffic or surgically targeting web applications. These attacks can prove devastating to a company’s ability to generate revenue as they present significant risks to brand reputation, customer service and online revenue streams.

“The rapid adoption of SiteProtect reflects the serious risk that DDoS attacks pose, and the success we’ve had in mitigating financial loss and downtime,” said Alex Berry, Neustar senior vice president of Enterprise Services. “We are constantly looking for new ways we can help our customers protect their brand reputation and bottom line.”

A recent Neustar DDoS survey of more than 1,000 IT professionals across North America found that three quarters of respondents fear negative brand impact and poor customer experience as a result of DDoS attacks.

When utilized with Neustar UltraDNS & Web Performance Management Solutions, SiteProtect provides security, reliability and performance assurance for both a customer’s domain name system (DNS) service and web infrastructure. When a DDoS attack hits, SiteProtect is activated by a simple DNS or border gateway protocol (BGP) routing change. The customer’s traffic is routed to cloud-based scrubbing centers that filter out attack traffic and send legitimate traffic on to the customer’s infrastructure.
