The Rottenstein Law Group, which represents clients with claims stemming from the adverse effects of the birth control device known as NuvaRing, is helping to publicize new research showing that the use of birth control which, like NuvaRing, combines estrogen and progestin, significantly increases a woman's risk of heart attack and stroke.
Published June 14 in the New England Journal of Medicine, the research is based on Danish researchers' review of 15 years of observational data from more than 1.6 million women aged 15 to 49, according to a HealthDay article. Led by Dr. Ojvind Lidegaard, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Copenhagen hospital Rigshospitalet, the researchers found that the female subjects taking "low-dose estrogen birth control pills combined with various progestins suffered heart attacks and strokes between 1.5 and 2 times more often than women not using hormonal contraception," the article states. "The risks were between 2.5 and 3 times higher among users of vaginal rings and transdermal patches compared to non-users."
As a law firm that represents many women alleging they sustained serious injuries as a result of having taken NuvaRing, the Rottenstein Law Group takes measures to alert consumers about the dangers posed by birth control devices, medical implants and dangerous drugs. The firm's NuvaRing Lawsuit Information Center, at http://www.rotlaw.com/nuvaring-blood-clots/, describes all of the issues that NuvaRing users face and explains their options. It has features that allow for easy sharing, including links for automatic posting on Facebook and Twitter, specifically to enable visitors to spread the word about the risks of taking NuvaRing and other prescription drugs. The Rottenstein Law Group, a personal injury firm, encourages visitors to link to its sites from their own blogs and websites to spread information about defective medical products and dangerous drugs.
