Olympia, Wa (PRWEB) June 20, 2012
Restaurant furniture manufacturer and distributor, Affordable Seating, has helped Olympia, Washington's landmark bar and diner, King Solomon's Reef, to a triumphant reopening, following a fire that required a full restoration of the establishment.
Known to local residents simply as 'The Reef', this family-run staple of downtown Olympia, located on the southern end of Puget Sound, made a negative into a positive by building a new roof and ceiling, installing new booths and redesigning its lounge to make it even better than before.
The Associated Press reported at the time of the fire in February 2011 that damage to the kitchen, bar and eating area was estimated at $100,000, and this figure did not take into account the added cost of replacing the ceiling and roof. Therefore, it was important for co-owner Lindy McIntyre to furnish the restaurant at minimal cost, Affordable Seating Sales Representative Sharon K. explained: "The McIntyres wanted to take care of the seating needs for an approximately 3,000 square foot space for around $10,000. And in order to get back their losses, they wanted to, not only retain their existing clientele, but also bring in different demographic groups."
King Solomon's Reef is a classic American diner, taking pride in its food made from scratch. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8am-3am, the diner makes fresh pies and milkshakes and features natural fried chicken which is brined in-house and pressure fried. In addition, The Reef has a cocktail lounge with a full bar that appeals to the local college and "hipster" crowd in downtown Olympia.
Olympia has long been considered a center of arts and culture, and one of the nation's best college towns, attracting many young people to the area. King Solomon's Reef looked to retain these customers by offering vegetarian and vegan friendly fare on their menu and by upgrading their bar area, choosing from Affordable Seating's wide selection of bar stools to maintain the lounge's swanky feel.
When planning the remodeling operation following the fire, the management of King Solomon's Reef decided to also try to better cater to families, adding a kids menu and ordering new 12-Channel Back custom-made dining booths in a variety of shapes, including single, double and U-shaped booths from Affordable Seating. “We really hope to branch out and have more families come and enjoy our food and restaurant,” McIntyre told local student newspaper The Sounds.
"King Solomon's Reef called Affordable Seating looking to maintain the vintage feel of their restaurant and lounge, but with new and durable furniture built to withstand heavy use for almost 20 hours daily by families and young people. It was important for them to make a good impression, but not waste a ton of money on new restaurant furniture," Sharon K. said.
According to newspaper and user reviews, King Solomon's Reef and Affordable Seating met the goal of renewing the venue's look, without losing its 'old-school' appeal. As The Weekly Volcano's Nikki Talotta reported following the reopening, "Everything is ship-shape, yet you can still feel the nostalgia the building holds."
