Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 20, 2012
World Book has launched a suite of online courses for students available exclusively on the NFHS Coach Education Program web site at http://www.nfhslearn.com. Developed by World Book, Inc. and Creative Street Media Group, Learning Pro: Simple Ways to Improve Study Habits and Promote Learning delivers practical advice on improving study skills and grades through four courses: Homework Helper, Reading and Learning Strategies, Research Skills, and Testing Tips.
Learning Pro is led by an on-camera host while peer correspondents file reports from the field for an entertaining spin on study skills. Interactive exercises allow students to learn about and practice their new skills, and printable resources also are available.
“World Book is delighted to link its expertise in crafting informational and educational content that works for students with the The National Federation of State High School Associations’ (NFHS) commitment to supporting students in and outside the classroom,” said Don Keller, president of World Book, Inc. “NFHSLearn.com is a powerful tool for educators and students alike to use in today’s extraordinarily challenging teaching and learning environment.”
“The collaboration between the NFHS and the education experts at World Book and Creative Street has resulted in a unique online learning experience that brings families and educators together in helping busy students develop study and reading skills in an innovative way,” Said Tim Flannery, NFHS director of Coach Education.
Learning Pro enables students, and parents, to focus on specific skills, and add more courses based upon their skill-building needs. Each course can be purchased online at NFHSLearn.com, or an individual can purchase all four courses at one time to receive a free one-year subscription to the World Book Web (a collection of online reference sources geared to the varying needs of elementary, intermediate, and secondary school students).
“We have worked with both World Book and the NFHS for years,” said Steve Katzenberger, president of Creative Street Media Group, “and bringing these two great organizations together for the development and distribution of Learning Pro on NFHSlearn.com was a perfect match because both organizations have at the heart of their mission a desire to help students succeed.”

Reading & Learning Strategies
Individuals learn differently. This module will help students develop strategies that support their own approach to learning. Effectively organizing information, employing techniques that increase retention, making meaningful connections with the material, and managing problems that may be getting in the way of academic performance are explored.
Test anxiety can undermine a student’s academic success. This module explores effective note-taking, outlining, and study skills to help students prepare for a test, and offers tips for tackling questions and avoiding self-defeating behavior on test day.
This module takes the student step by step through a research project—planning the project, identifying sources and conducting the research, evaluating print and Internet sources, and compiling the information in a meaningful way.
This module will help students identify the optimal environment for learning and provide skills to allow them to take control of their study experiences. Included are tips on how to prepare to study, how to get organized, the importance of maintaining a study schedule, how to manage distractions, and how to develop good study habits.
