Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) June 20, 2012

US Micro PC today announced the availability of their energy-efficient and powerful CriKit MicroServer. A Crikit MicroServer is a compact, quiet, powerful and energy-efficient server based on Intel’s 64 bit Xeon E31260L low-wattage processor. In combination with Intel 520 Series Solid State Drives (SSD’s) the US Micro, CriKit MicroServer can claim to be the most powerful and energy efficient small form factor server on the market today. A single CriKit MicroServer is powerful enough to run multiple virtual machines using any of today’s major hypervisors while drawing less than 100 Watts of electricity. The potential cost and energy savings of this type of computing platform are substantial.

“ There are millions of older servers in use today that consume significantly more energy per compute cycle than they should compared to newer technology”, says Paul Morse, Director of Cloud Systems at US Micro. “Our new CriKit MicroServer gives organizations the opportunity to reduce their energy bill and lower their carbon footprint, and in many cases consolidate workloads and improve the responsiveness of the application”

The US Micro CriKit MicroServer draws less than 100 Watts of electricity while providing 8 computing threads for the applications running on the MicroServer. In addition, a CriKit MicroServer can be configured with up to 32 GB of RAM, which allows one MicroServer to run multiple virtual machines or large individual applications while conserving substantial amounts of energy in the process compared to older less energy-efficient server computing platforms.

“We are pleased to create and offer an innovative MicroServer product that can accelerate energy reduction in the computer room”, said John Lotzkar, President of US Micro. “ One of our goals is to continue our innovation to provide CIO’s with technology that helps them in their Carbon Footprint Reduction initiatives and the CriKit MicroServer does that in a transformative way.”

Calculations have been completed on the amount of energy that can be saved using a CriKit MicroServer compared to an older server. For example, each Kilo Watt Hour (kWh) that a server computer consumes is approximately equal to the burning of 1.03 Pounds of coal. A 1,000 Watt Server will use 24 kWh per day which would require the burning of 24.72 pounds of coal per day. A CriKit MicroServer uses just 2.4 kWh per day which requires only 2.47 pounds of coal per day. That is a coal consumption reduction of over 22 pounds of coal PER DAY for just one machine. If 1 Million older, 1,000 Watt servers were replaced with CriKit MicroServers, that would result in a reduction of consumed coal of 22 Million pounds per day !

“ Our customers have told us they need solutions to help reduce electrical consumption and assist their Carbon Footprint Reduction initiatives”, said Todd Marvin, Vice President at US Micro. “ The CriKit MicroServer we are announcing today is a focused response to help them achieve their Green Computing goals.”

The CriKit MicroServer is available now in a wide variety of configurations on Amazon and eBay, or, by contacting US Micro directly at 1-800-874-5505
