Harleysville, PA (PRWEB) June 20, 2012
In the interview, Dr. Domenick Braccia stated, “The warm winter has brought an increase in the number of deer ticks, and, as a result, a significant increase in the number of calls and patients as compared to last year.” WFMZ Channel 69, which covers Lehigh and Berks Counties in PA, did the TV segment as part of Lyme Awareness Month.
One of Dr. Domenic Braccia’s patients, Jim Gillespie, Oley Valley, Pike Township, Berks County PA was also interviewed for the television broadcast. Jim talked about how he contracted the disease, the symptoms, and how he eventually found Dr. Braccia and the staff at Haverford Wellness Center in Harleysville, Montgomery County, PA to correctly diagnose and treat him for Lyme.
“I just kept ignoring the symptoms,” said Mr. Gillespie. “I thought I had a bad flu; then was diagnosed with possible MS. I was even told I might be having a mental problem. I was sick for over a year. My wife did a lot of research online, and finally asked me to look more closely at Lyme disease as a possible diagnosis. I still didn’t believe it.” Jim continues,” It wasn’t until I sought help from Dr. Braccia at the Haverford Wellness Center that I finally got the correct diagnosis and treatment. It was my wife who never gave up.”
According to Dr. Braccia, “It is quite common for Lyme disease to be misdiagnosed for many different reasons. Many people do not remember a ‘tick bite’ and not everyone gets the well-known ‘bulls eye rash.’ Lyme disease is a highly individual ailment. Not only are symptoms different for each Lyme patient, but treatment (including antibiotic therapy) also works differently for each individual. We do not know why this is so.”
According to Dr. Braccia, “If you suspect Lyme disease, it's important to get an accurate Lyme diagnosis and Lyme treatment started right away.”
