Leading independent advisor and broker services company chooses OpenDNS Enterprise for lightweight Web filtering and DNS-based malware protection that “just works.”

OpenDNS Enterprise just works. I always recommend it.

OpenDNS, the world's largest and fastest-growing provider of Internet security and DNS services that deliver a safer, faster and more intelligent Internet experience to everyone, today announced National Holdings Corporation (NHLD) is using OpenDNS Enterprise, the favorite solution of businesses of all sizes that require an easy-to-manage, scalable security solution. National Holdings Corporation, which helps over 1,000 independent advisors, brokers, traders, sales associates and support personnel manage their holdings, selected OpenDNS Enterprise for lightweight Web filtering and malware protection.

Prior to deploying OpenDNS Enterprise, NHLD was using SonicWALL for Web filtering but found the solution to be heavy and cumbersome with a tendency to bottleneck traffic and slow down the Internet. The team at NHLD was seeking a lightweight and less complicated way to filter Internet traffic and keep the network running fast. Additionally, the organization was attempting to curtail malware through a complicated manual system that involved constant scanning and attention. The ideal new security solution would enable NHLD’s IT team to proactively prevent malware.

NHLD selected OpenDNS Enterprise for a variety of reasons. First, an easy-to-setup trial of the service proved that it does exactly what it claims. Second, multiple features including Block Page Bypass, customized black/whitelists and email notifications make Web filtering management and reporting a breeze. Third, because Web filtering categories and malicious domains lists are updated in real time through the cloud, the NHLD IT team no longer has to worry about spending time on software upgrades or manual updates. Finally, OpenDNS Enterprise allowed NHLD to add a scalable layer of proactive Internet security for a very low total cost of ownership.

“OpenDNS Enterprise is the ideal platform to accomplish Web filtering and malware protection as the DNS-based service has little-to-no installation requirements for all our systems,” said William Silliman, Chief Technology Officer for National Holdings Corporation. “We went from a Web filtering solution that was cumbersome and slowed Internet services to a solution that works at the speed of the Internet.”

OpenDNS Enterprise also offers a layer of proactive, preventative malware protection for NHLD. Silliman explains, “OpenDNS malware protection is straightforward, lightweight and accurate. It seamlessly integrates with our existing architecture, and management is far less complex than other solutions.”

Beyond Internet security, OpenDNS also solves another important problem for NHLD. Prior to deploying OpenDNS Enterprise, the distributed organization was experiencing inconsistent Internet performance across its multiple locations, which received DNS resolution from a variety of different Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Silliman shares that OpenDNS’s DNS service, the platform that the company’s Internet security solutions are built on, is, “stellar, fast and global, freeing up our IT team from troubleshooting DNS resolution issues.”

The remote management capability of OpenDNS Enterprise allows the NHLD team to log in from anywhere, on any Internet-connected device. As Silliman explains, “In the past, our team had to use an SSL VPN to log into our corporate site, then into the server, then into the service, before finally making a change. Now, they just log into the service from a smartphone and address issues head-on.”

Silliman concluded: “OpenDNS Enterprise just works. In addition to freeing up my IT team’s time, it has also lowered our blood pressure. I always recommend it.”
