As a fantasy hero, the player’s goal is to find and rescue mystical fairies which are being held helplessly captive in crystal prisons. The challenging questions require not only locating the crystals in which the girls are being imprisoned, but in surviving to do so—the hero will not proceed unchallenged. A horde of ruthless zombie enemies and their monstrous companions will stand between the hero and his goal, while the indifferent timer marks the seconds as they pass. If the player should fail to find the fairy girl before time is up, her fate is fatally sealed.

In addition to the tension building narrative, Combo Slash offers players a fast-paced, action-oriented style of play, with combat combos dominating each stage. The designers behind Combo Slash made it a goal for each round of gameplay to be as intriguing and as addictive as the last; their solution to the action-heavy-ennui that sometimes sets is elegantly simple. Each time the player begins a session, he or she must navigate the stage map to find the fairy—but each time, that map is completely different.
