Brunswick, ME (PRWEB) June 21, 2012

Maine Prep’s 10th anniversary celebration begins July 18, 2012, 4 to 7 p.m., with an Open House at 22 Parkers Way, Brunswick, Maine. In its ten years of operation, Maine Prep (http://www.maineprep.com) has become Maine’s largest SAT prep company and one of the state’s finest success stories. The company has helped over 6,000 high school students raise their SAT and ACT scores, boost their admissions chances, and qualify for merit scholarships.

Maine Prep was founded in 2002 by Jack Mahoney, who during the 1990s taught all major tests and trained new test prep teachers for Stanley Kaplan in New York City. That year, Mahoney created the first edition of Maine Prep’s acclaimed TEN for TEN SAT prep curriculum, designed to help students decode the test, polish their skills, raise their comfort level, and score higher.

“Jack Mahoney’s unique and highly intuitive approach to test preparation provides a method that efficiently isolates weaknesses, simplifies central difficulties, and then provides clear-cut strategic tools to overcome them,” said Willie Ellis, Princeton University, ‘12.

From a kitchen table, five students, and one teacher, Maine Prep quickly grew. Within three years, the company had opened its first office in Brunswick, hired additional teachers, expanded group class offerings to four new locations throughout Maine, and began training high school teachers to teach the Maine Prep curriculum in their schools. Students - and their parents - were discovering the benefits of prepping for the SAT.

“My sons were able to take a more relaxed and confident approach to the SATs, and each increased his score by 200 points,” stated Kim Nashad of Waterville, Maine. “Next year they are both attending their top choice schools. I enthusiastically recommend Maine Prep!”

Maine Prep began a series of innovations not only to help students improve their SAT scores but to perform better in their high school classes. These include a comprehensive SAT essay analysis system, a math tutorial, and SAT WORD OF THE DAY, an original and free Maine Prep service that delivers a new SAT word to each subscriber’s mailbox every day of the year.

Awards and honors followed. Maine Prep’s Jessica Kaplan was inducted into the UNUM Educators’ Hall of Fame based on her success with the Maine Prep-inspired SAT prep course she designed and runs for South Portland High School. In addition, a Maine Prep student, Michael Girouard, was named Presidential Scholar, the highest honor given to one boy and one girl from each state. Girouard, who now attends Williams College, qualified for the award based on his SAT scores.

Beginning its eleventh year, Maine Prep, with a faculty and staff of fourteen, continues to expand. SAT classes and private tutoring to prepare students for the upcoming October 6, 2012 SAT and PSAT will be held July, August, and September in eleven locations from Bangor to Kennebunkport, including Maine Prep’s spacious offices in Brunswick, where the July 18, 2012 Open House will take place.

“I highly recommend Maine Prep to any high school student looking for the combination of tailored test-taking skills and stress-relieving support necessary to nail his or her boards,” said Maddie High, Brown University, ’15.
