Minnesota School of Business (MSB) alumna Amy Nelson, founder and CEO of Elk River, Minn.-based Accurate Home Care, has received the 2012 Hall of Fame award from the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities(APSCU).

"The Hall of Fame award honors a graduate of an APSCU member school who has gone on to achieve great heights in his or her field of study, and has had an immense impact on their profession and surrounding community," said Steve Gunderson, president and CEO of APSCU.

After working two years in the homecare industry, Nelson started Accurate Home Care when she was 18. She continued pursuing her higher education to better serve her clients, initially taking nursing courses, but then focusing on the business side of home health care. She attended Minnesota School of Business’s Online Division, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in health care management and an MBA.

“Obtaining degrees utilizing real-world examples and experiences has helped me to achieve greater respect and understanding of the challenges business owners face,” Nelson said. “Minnesota School of Business has helped incorporate strategic thinking into my daily routine.”

Minnesota School of Business offers more than 30 online degree programs in business, IT, health management and criminal justice.

Today, Nelson oversees all operations of Accurate Home Care, which has become Minnesota's largest home health care provider. Rated among the top 25 providers in the state, her company serves as a resource for local hospitals, county workers, physicians and the community at large.

"[Nelson] continued her education in order to establish and grow a business known and sought after for its excellence in home health care,” Gunderson said. “She is committed to her work and her community and APSCU is honored to award her with the 2012 Hall of Fame award."

Nelson will accept the award at a special luncheon at APSCU’s annual convention in Las Vegas, Nev., June 20-22.
