Illinois-based insurance agency, Price Insurance, provides tips to ensure that Illinois residents are being smart when it comes to the powerful sun this summer. While it may seem harmless to lie out on the beach and bask in the warm rays, this could not be further from the truth. If local residents are not careful, they may be visiting their doctor sooner than later and diagnosed with skin cancer. In addition to providing Illinois life insurance and health insurance quotes, Price Insurance hopes to help protect Illinois residents by offering tips to reduce the risk of such a deadly disease.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. In 2011, 76,330 U.S. residents were diagnosed with skin cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. This statistic can be broken down into 43,890 men and 32,440 women. Out of those people, 11,980 people in the U.S. died. These numbers are alarming and for this reason, the agency offers this advice:

  •     Wear sunscreen with at least 30 SPF. SPF should have both UVA and UVB protection. Also, remember to re-apply every few hours (especially those who are swimming or sweating).
  •     Even if locals will not be outdoors, they should always wear protection (especially on the face).
  •     The sun is at its strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Avoid lying out in the sun during this time, especially without sunscreen.
  •     Seek shade when possible.
  •     While outdoors, wear a hat with a wide-brim to protect face, neck, ears and scalp.
  •     Purchase a good pair of sunglasses to protect eyes from UV rays and the risk of cataracts.
  •     Avoid the temptation to use an indoor tanning salon. No tan is worth a life!

Price Insurance encourages Illinois residents to protect their skin, whether it’s 90 degrees and sunny or 70 degrees and cloudy. Neglecting to do so will put individuals at high risk for skin cancer. The last thing that anyone wants to do this summer is spend time in and out of hospitals and doctor offices. While the agency would be happy to provide Illinois life insurance and health insurance, it would rather its clients be healthy and claim-free.
