Since inception in 1982, Budco has stringently practiced recycling and environmentally friendly policies within their offices, production, and warehousing facilities, following specified recycling guidelines for materials used within these areas. The company is compliant with ISO 14001 standards, and they regularly review and upgrade their observance.
“Our Headquarters was built in 2000 in Highland Park, Michigan, using sustainable site plans,” said Budco Facilities Director Tony Nader. “Those site plans incorporated the addition of public transportation stations on-property, bike racks, water regulating fixtures, high-efficiency and automatic lighting, HVAC regulation, and on-site recycling programs.” Nader further explained that the efficient design of the Budco Headquarters building provides Budco the ability to light 30% of the office space with daylight, and to use ambient heat from office and production equipment to heat the building during winter months.
For printing and material production, Budco uses Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper stocks and contracted print partners whenever possible to ensure that all output is the product of socially beneficial and economically viable forestry management.
This spring, Budco partnered with TerraPass, a social enterprise out of San Francisco, California, to track Budco’s organizational emissions, calculate a current carbon footprint, and serve as their ongoing environmental consultant. As Budco’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) champion, Nader worked directly with TerraPass to establish and implement a long-term commitment to sustainability and environmentally friendly business practices.
“Keeping sustainability top-of-mind is an essential part of the Budco strategy,” said Nader. “We are indeed committed to this long-term plan and will continue to track and minimize our environmental impact and carbon footprint over the years to come.”
