New York, NY (PRWEB) June 25, 2012

Cynthia Gomez, D.D.S., is introducing patients in New York City to the revolutionary Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure for treating gum disease. This disease affects millions of Americans each year and can lead to serious health problems. The new LANAP treatment is a minimally invasive protocol that provides an alternative to traditional gum surgery. Patients in the periodontal clinic of Dr. Gomez now have both treatment options.

Dr. Gomez understands the problems that gum disease can cause and has been published in a number of periodontal publications. She realizes that many patients with gum disease avoid traditional methods of treatment. Because she cares about her patients and wants them to receive the treatment they so badly need, she has taken the time necessary to train on the LANAP procedure so that she can offer this innovative treatment alternative to her patients in New York City.

The first step in the LANAP procedure is to measure the depth of the periodontal pockets to see how much attachment has been lost. Next, Dr. Gomez uses pulsed laser light to kill the bacteria and remove diseased tissue from the periodontal pocket. Calculus or tarter is removed from the root surface ultrasonically with scalers, and then a clot is formed by the remaining gum tissue. The remaining healthy tissue is compressed along the root surface so that it can reattach to the root. During the laser gum disease treatment, the healthy tissue is stimulated to attach to the root, and the bone is stimulated to regenerate. Bleeding is minimal, as is pain and discomfort. Healing is usually accomplished in a relatively short period of time.

Dr. Gomez is a specialist in periodontal disease treatment and knows that when patients have more alternatives, they are more likely to be treated. Gum disease is an ongoing problem in this country that needs to be addressed. By including the FDA cleared LANAP procedure in her practice, Dr. Gomez is providing options for her patients who need periodontal treatment.
