The Goody Awards is honored to present a Golden Goody Award (like an Oscar for social good) to Louie Psihoyos, Academy Award Winning Director of The Cove, at the 7th Annual ITV Fest Awards on Sunday, July 8th with an audience of celebrities, independent filmmakers, directors and producers. This top award is being presented as part of the Goody Awards World Oceans Campaign (http://facebook.com/goodyawards), which includes ocean education through film, video, social media and lives events. For this event, there will be a red carpet, black-tie optional reception and awards ceremony that will be live-streamed via Ustream to a global audience.

In recognition of Louie Psihoyos’ outstanding achievements in ocean conservation through film and photography, Lillian Müller (International Model, Actress, Health Advocate and International Speaker) will present a Golden Goody Award to Louie on behalf of the Goody Awards (http://goodyawards.com.) This lifetime achievement award for social good will be presented during the 7th Annual ITV Fest Awards at the LA Convention Center on Sunday, July 8th. Along with being an Academy Award Winning Director of The Cove (http://www.thecovemovie.com/), Louie founded OPS (Ocean Preservation Society) in 2005, is an award-winning National Geographic Photographer, and an Advisory Board Member for The Blu (3D interactive ocean that contributes to ocean preservation when you buy fish.)

When receiving the news about this award, Louie shared, “It’s an honor to receive the Golden Goody Award and be part of a growing global community passionate about the oceans. We are at a critical tipping point. As filmmakers and citizens, we have an extraordinary opportunity to collectively shape the future health of our oceans and the planet. What we do and say now matters.”

As a diver and ocean champion, Louie founded OPS (http://www.opsociety.org/) to inspire people to save oceans. OPS employs the visual arts to raise awareness about critical ocean issues from ocean acidification to habit loss to overfishing. Louie also has received multiple awards for his photography, including first place in the World Press Contest and the Hearst Award.

Goody Awards CEO/Founder Liz H Kelly, shared, “We’re so honored to present this lifetime achievement award to Louie Psihoyos. We met The Cove team at Sundance 2009 when few had heard about their film, and have been a hug fan of Louie’s work ever since. We got chills today on a dolphin watch tour in Newport Beach, CA, where at least ten shoutouts were made thanking Louie and The Cove for educating millions about the oceans. Thank you Louie and your OPS team.”

Louie is currently filming a new documentary, about the unspoken, 6th mass extinction, and what steps we can take to prevent it. In addition to the film, Louie and his team are organizing a complementary MOVEMENT rooted in hope and action. “The Wave” will wash over hundreds of millions of people through a feature length film, traveling art and education exhibit, a robust educational program for school children and a comprehensive social media and activation campaign.

Throughout June and into mid-July, the Goody Awards is promoting OPS, The Blu (http://theblu.com) and ocean preservation with special awards, ocean education and videos, social good panels, articles, and a Goody Awards photo contest on Facebook http://bit.ly/K4rosf. The winner of this World Oceans Month Photo Contest will be announced at Comic Con International 2012. Users can upload a photo of “Marine Water” (Oceans, Lakes, Rivers, Streams, Waterfalls), marine life or marine animals between June 1 - June 30, 2012 via Facebook.
