The only wireless platform for kids, kajeet, partners with industry leaders to provide safe, secure, and affordable Android™ tablets for use by both students and teachers in Fairfax County Public Schools as part of Qualcomm’s Wireless Reach™ Initiative.

We think digital media holds great promise for education and enrichment, in and out of school.

Kajeet® (http://www.kajeet.com), the preeminent wireless service platform for kids and those who love them, is pleased to announce its participation in the new Making Learning Mobile pilot program, which is sponsored by Qualcomm Incorporated’s Wireless Reach™ initiative. Common Sense Media, Emantras, and EduTone are working with kajeet to provide access to applications and tools to further enhance students’ learning experience through mobile technology. Kajeet will equip four Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) classrooms with the HTC Evo View Android™ tablet. These devices, which utilize kajeet’s web-based Global Mobile Award-nominated Sentinel™ platform to manage Internet access, will allow students to collaborate on schoolwork anywhere, anytime and enable teachers to deliver one-to-one lessons with the latest safe and compliant instructional resources.

“We are excited to collaborate with Qualcomm, Common Sense Media, Emantras, and EduTone to continue to provide a path-breaking, mobile technology solution for middle school students and their teachers,” said Daniel Neal, CEO and Founder of kajeet. “This initiative is perfectly aligned with kajeet’s mission of providing safe, secure and affordable mobile technology for students and is designed to improve the educational outcomes for our students.”

Scheduled to launch in the 2012-2013 school year, students in FCPS will each receive an Android™-powered tablet for use throughout the entire school year. The pilot program will include access to Common Sense Media’s Digital Passport™, a self-guided online game that provides the roadmap kids need as they are preparing to get online and go mobile on their own. The Digital Passport™ covers issues including online safety and security, privacy, cyberbullying, copyright and creation, and finding information online. The program will also feature Emantras’ MOBL21 platform that teachers can use to create mobile lessons and conduct formative assessments; and instructional content for educators under a single sign-on environment connected by EduTone’s Passport™ and its Global Grid for Learning Content Library. Project Tomorrow, a nonprofit group nationally recognized for research on innovative uses of mobile technology in K-12 schools, will evaluate and measure the pilot program’s success.

“We think digital media holds great promise for education and enrichment, in and out of school,” said Mike Lorion, Vice President and General Manager of Education, Common Sense Media. “But these powerful tools come with potential risks, too. We applaud kajeet and FCPS for making digital literacy and citizenship education a priority. Teaching students to use technology safely and responsibly from the beginning will help them make the most of this terrific mobile learning opportunity. We hope other districts implementing one-to-one technology programs will follow the example set by FCPS and equip teachers and students with resources like the Digital Passport™ to help them avoid the pitfalls and harness the potential of their devices.”

FCPS administrators will use kajeet’s Global Mobile Award-acknowledged Sentinel™ platform to manage student data access, including monitoring usage on each device and ensuring appropriate, educational use. Kajeet’s patented technology allows each school to provide a compliant, mobile broadband environment for any type of mobile device, while reducing costs for anytime, anywhere access.

Kajeet makes staying connected at home or in school safe, secure and affordable. The only wireless service platform that provides Internet-filtered Android™ devices, walleting functionality, kid-friendly content and GPS technology, kajeet enables communication and learning between kids, parents and educators in a safe setting.
