Want a big return on your home improvement dollars? Remodel your kitchen. Based on research conducted by national provider of consumer reviews, Angie’s List ( http://www.AngiesList.com ), kitchens bring in the highest return on investment. Here are your top five best home remodeling bets:
1. Kitchen, with an 85% return on investment
2. Bathroom, with an 80% return
3. Deck, with an 80% return
4. Siding, with 80% return
5. Window replacement, with a 70% return
In a newly released infographic ( http://www.angieslist.com/articles/home-maintenance-and-remodeling-tips-summer.htm ), Angie’s List also reveals that the home remodeling projects with the least return on investment are swimming pools, home office remodels, sun rooms, master suites and garages. “Well-planned and executed home improvements make your house more liveable while you live there, and they boost your home’s resale value,” says Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List. “If you’re investing in your home specifically to sell it, focus your dollars on the things that will really wow a potential buyer.”
According to Angie’s List, the top 10 summer home maintenance services requested by members from June 1, 2011 to September 1, 2011 are:
1. Roofing
2. Plumbing
3. HVAC/Heating & Cooling
4. Electrical
5. Tree service
6. General remodeling
7. Painting
8. Landscaping
9. Handymen
10. Carpet cleaning
The infographic also includes tips on how to hire the best contractor. Angie’s List suggests you obtain at least three written estimates before you make a decision. More importantly, do your research before you sign anything. “Don’t settle for a company without a great local reputation or references you can verify,” Hicks says. “Wait for the right contractor.”
Angie’s List collects consumer reviews on local contractors and doctors in more than 550 service categories. Currently, more than 1 million members check Angie’s List before they hire. Take a quick tour of Angie’s List and view the latest Angie’s List news.
