NurseTogether.com, one of the most popular online communities for nursing professionals, today has announced that it will actively collaborate with the DAISY Foundation, who supports the nursing community, expressing gratitude to those nurses who have demonstrated excellence in the profession and who have made an impact on their patients and peers. Each week, NurseTogether.com will feature a special article involving a DAISY Award story – a story of a nurse “just doing her or his job” that has moved a patient or family member to share it with the world by submitting a DAISY Award nomination.
DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The Foundation was formed in November, 1999, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). During his hospitalization, Pat’s family was truly touched by his nurses’ care – not only the impressive clinical skill but especially the compassion and kindness they showed Pat and his family. So when he died, his family felt compelled to express their profound gratitude to nurses for the work they do for patients and their families every day. Today, the DAISY Award honors extraordinary nursing care in nearly 1,300 healthcare facilities in seven countries, with over 40,000 nurses having received the DAISY Award. The DAISY Foundation also funds nursing research through the J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence Based Practice and also honors nursing faculty through the DAISY Faculty Award.
Said Bonnie Barnes, Co-founder and President of the DAISY Awards, “The DAISY Awards honor the amazing compassion and dedication that nurses share with their patients. We believe nurses are unsung heroes, and we are dedicated to celebrating them. We are thrilled that NurseTogether.com will help us share the outstanding work that nurses do every day. Nurses need to know that they are truly appreciated and that their extraordinary efforts make a big difference in the lives of patients and their families.”
“NurseTogether.com is honored to be working with the DAISY Foundation in supporting the worldwide community of nurses” said Jenny SolCruz, Vice President of Community for NurseTogether.com. “The DAISY Award is one of the most prestigious and meaningful recognitions in all of nursing, and we’re glad we can play a small role in recognizing those deserving nurses around the world who make a difference every day for their patients and families.”
