After being misdiagnosed for two years, Sheila Clayton Christie’s son, Daniel, was diagnosed with autism in 2004. She took him to a pediatrician who specialized in recovery from autism, and in 2009 he was declared recovered from autism symptoms. Christie recounts the incredible story in her new book “Rainbow Over My House: An Incredible Story of Triumphant Victory over Autism!” (published by WestBow Press).
“Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an epidemic in our country,” Christie writes. “Its symptoms have caused many children to experience developmental delays, even robbing them of their childhood. However, through the proper medical care, recovery from autism is possible! It can be overcome!”
An excerpt from “Rainbow Over My House”:
“We celebrated for days! We called our parents, siblings, friends, etc and told them about it! That day Daniel made us take the limits off of him. He showed us that not only is he an overcomer, but also a winner! We saw that he was beginning to make up for lost time. Therefore we had to ‘get out of the way’ and allow him new and wonderful experiences. The emotions that brought fear and negative “what if” questions had to be annihilated. Our little boy was back, and ready to live! Ready to enjoy his childhood!”
Christie hopes the story of Daniel’s success will give hope to other families suffering with autism. “I also want them to know that there is Hope in a hopeless situation,” she says, “and to have the Faith to believe that it can happen to them! God is the healer. He can and will do the same for them.”
