Gig Salad, the place to book entertainment and event services across North America, is continually working to make the whole process of booking entertainment easier than ever before. But beyond making things work better at GigSalad.com, they are also attempting to extend their reach beyond the bounds of the web, and lend a helping hand in other, more tangible ways.

Project H.O.P.E., an interdenominational Christian service organization based in Springfield, MO, has dedicated their mission to helping meet the immediate needs of impoverished people while sharing with them the Good News of Jesus Christ. Although based in the Midwest, Project H.O.P.E.’s work centers in Nicaragua, the poorest Spanish-speaking country in the Western hemisphere. Since 1998, Project H.O.P.E. has been sharing the Gospel and spreading goodwill through a variety of programs, including medical & dental outreach, home construction, water projects, pastoral training, abstinence programs, community development and more. While the Gig Bureau is proud to support the efforts of Project H.O.P.E., they also understand that problems cannot be solved through donations alone.

Gig Bureau co-founder Mark Steiner boarded a plane in Missouri on June 2nd with his daughter Olivia, an excess of luggage, and a special joy in his heart. Arriving in Nicaragua, Mark and Olivia quickly went to work with the local representatives of Project H.O.P.E. in the small town of Mateare. Over the next few days the Steiners helped build houses within the community and assisted in a variety of outreach programs. While there, Mark took a day trip to a local prison to spread fellowship to those who may need it most, and Olivia visited a local school sponsored by the Steiners’ home church in Missouri.

“It’s really a wonderful feeling to be able to give back in this way, but overall this is a very humbling experience," says Mark. "Sitting at home and sending donations might feel good, but to actually travel down there, meet this amazing group of people who are working against such great odds, and to join in both fellowship and construction is a feeling like no other. There will always be more to do. Olivia and myself are looking forward to our next opportunity to join Project H.O.P.E. in Mateare, but we’ve brought back special memories and the knowledge that things are looking better for the people of Mateare.”

Taking those memories with them, the Steiners left plenty behind in return. “We both traveled back with little more than the clothes on our back, which is still more than the people in Mateare have each day. We donated clothing, shoes, and other toiletries and items that we had been gathering and saving for the past year. It might not seem like much to most people, but many of the things that we take for granted really are a luxury in places like Mateare,” says Olivia.

The Gig Bureau and daughter company Gig Salad are honored to support Project H.O.P.E. and their continued work sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ while also helping to meet the immediate needs of impoverished people in Nicaragua and beyond.
