A' Award and Competitions are proud to announce that the "Dvelas Upcycled Sail Cloth For Contemporary Furniture" has been announced as a winner of the noteable A' Design Award at Textile, Fabric and Cloth Design Category, elected as a winner by the international awarding commission of the A' Design Awards & Competitions amidst a great number of submissions.
A clear and clever example of re-use, Dvelas converts unused sails into fabrics to re-use them for contemporary furnishings, the idea was highlighted as highly sustainable and environment-friendly by the jury. Enrique Kahle, the designer of the winning cloth design explains “Dvelas promotes the recovery of used sails to transform them into contemporary designs, emerging as a creative reaction to harness the vast amount of material disposed from sailing ships, taking their aesthetics, materials, techniques and forms as a new way and inspiration for design. Dvelas produces the fabrics in both limited editions and unique editions; these series originating from a specific sail, are identified with a tag with data about the source of the sail as the homeport, the sailboat, the type of sail and the original sailmaker.” Dvelas Fabrics and Upcycled Furniture were made by Dvelas team composed of: Enrique Kahle, Architect, Arraitz Koch, Designer, Esperanza Kahle, Architect and Borja Fuentes, Architect + Sailmaker, leaded by Enrique Kahle who is an architect in KahleOizaArauzo Arquitectura (Spain), co-founder and designer of the Dvelas's furniture collection.
