Verizon’s mobile data price increase confirms need for proactive TEM / WEM for enterprises

Wireless Analytics encourages enterprises to proactively manage telecom and mobile data use as Verizon Wireless’ rolls out their “Share Everything” data plans.

Verizon Wireless rolls out their new “Share Everything” data plans to new and existing customers today. These mobile data plan changes confirm the need for enterprises to proactively manage telecom and mobile data use.

Erik Eames, founder and managing director of Wireless Analytics, said he is looking towards the future, when price plans like this roll out for corporate plans.

“Verizon’s new mobile data plans are a step in the right direction with sharing of mobile data allotments among as many as ten different devices," stated Eames. "However, the fees for these new plans come with big price increases, and the allowances for each tier of data are stingy. I look forward to seeing mobile data pooling for enterprises, but we are counseling our corporate clients to negotiate better pricing from wireless providers before they jettison their less costly unlimited data plans."

Currently, enterprises do not have access to the new data plans, but Wireless Analytics believes that the new mobile data pricing is likely coming soon to corporate plans.

“Companies will need to be ready for this when it happens,” added Eames. “Working with a wireless expense management firm now—rather than when all of these changes have already happened—can help enterprises understand where all of that data usage is going and how expenses can be controlled. Obtaining a clear and detailed picture of spending is the most important step in being prepared for this change.”

To prevent unnecessary wasteful spending Wireless Analytics, along with TEMIA, the Telecom Expense Management Industry Association, suggests that organizations implement wireless management best practices including:

  • Policies that communicate expectations for mobile data use and limit wasteful consumption
  • Optimization of service plans to ensure that employees have the right plans for their usage
  • Automation of invoice processing for processing efficiencies to avoid late payment penalties
  • Validation of charges on bills through TEM and WEM systems
  • Better accountability and visibility through reporting of usage and mobile expenses
