One of the first adult day health programs established in Massachusetts, Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group’s Colonial Adult Day Health Center in Weymouth celebrates its 33rd anniversary this summer. “Adult Day Health is an important part of the continuum of care offered to older adults by our family-owned senior services company,” says Richard Welch, president of Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group. For over 60 years the Welch Healthcare &Retirement Group has been committed to providing unsurpassed senior housing, healthcare, rehabilitative and retirement solutions on the Massachusetts South Shore. The National Adult Day Service Association (NADSA) estimates more than 260,000 older adults and family caregivers receive services from about 4,600 Adult Day Health centers nationwide.

Programs such as the one at Colonial Rehabilitation & Nursing Center help seniors maintain their independence while continuing to live within the community. All Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group adult day health programs offer a safe and supportive daytime environment and provide a wide range of health, social and support services - all overseen by a registered nurse. Members enjoy recreational activities and the companionship of others and caregivers receive support and respite services. “Providing a safe and stimulating program reduces caregiver burnout,” says Pat Leavey, director of Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group’s Adult Day Health Programs. The Adult Day Health Program at Colonial is a part of the continuum of care provided by the Welch Group, which also includes Weymouth’s Colonial Rehabilitation & Nursing Center and Allerton House Assisted Living Community at Central Park.

Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group has two other adult day health centers, the Hancock Park Adult Day Health Center in Quincy and the Adult Day Memory Care Program in Hingham, a specialized day program for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
