Richard Whitehead became the latest world record breaker at the IPC Athletics European Championships when he smashed his own previous best to claim gold in the T42 200m final in the Netherlands.

The former marathon runner, a double above-the-knee amputee, took top spot on the podium with a time of 24.93 seconds, improving his own world record set at last month's Visa London Disability Athletics Challenge at the Olympic Stadium.

It was the eighth world record set in Stadskanaal this week.

GB picked up two further golds as visually impaired sprinters Tracey Hinton and Libby Clegg won the 200m in the T11 and T12 classes respectively.

Hinton, 42, who is aiming to compete at her sixth Paralympic Games in London, won her race in 27.31secs while Beijing silver medallist Clegg clinched gold in a time of 25.47secs.

Sprinters Sophia Warner and Graeme Ballard finished runners-up in their respective sprinting finals; Warner in the women's T35 100m in 16.70secs while Ballard took silver in the T36 200m final in 25.19secs, with compatriot Ben Rushgrove 0.06secs adrift to take bronze.

Beverley Jones picked up her second silver medal of the championships in the F37 discus while Katrina Hart collected her second bronze in the T37 100m.

Javelin thrower Kyron Duke (F40) and sprinter Olivia Breen (100m T38) also won bronze medals for GB on Wednesday.

Russia continue to top the medal's table with 24 golds and 61 medals in total, with GB sixth.

Thursday is the final day of competition in Stadskanaal.
