New Idea to Promote Google+ Following

Google+ is growing and is expected to increase in popularity exponentially in 2012 and 2013, and we want to be ready when that happens.

KQ Insurance Services, a health insurance agency in Northern California, will be giving away an iPad 3 once they reach 500 followers on Google+. If anyone +1’s KQ on Google+, then they are automatically entered to win this prize. Sharing KQ’s Google+ posts can increase the number of contest entries and chances to win.

“Usually, we try to give away prizes that are in some way related to health insurance, since that’s why we are in business,” says Thomas Cazneau, Social Media Administrator at KQ. “However, in my experience, I have found that giving away a big techy gadget is a good way to get started on a social network. It paves the way for more people to receive who we really are as a business on that social network.”

In 2010, KQ decided to start a Facebook page and give away an iPad. This decision gave them hundreds, and eventually thousands of Facebook fans. Today, KQ is successfully delivering content related to Affordable Medical Insurance and California Health Insurance in an engaging way on both Facebook and Twitter, and the quantity and quality of their fan and follower base is growing daily. They now hope to replicate a similar journey on Google+.

“Facebook is still the main social network that online users prefer, and Twitter is becoming so much easier to use,” Cazneau says. “However, Google+ is growing and is expected to increase in popularity exponentially in 2012 and 2013, and we want to be ready when that happens.”

At the moment, KQ has 160 who have +1’d or circled them on Google+. They welcome Google Plusers to share the contest posts with their friends and family as much as possible. As soon as they reach 500 followers, they will give away the iPad 3.
