Each dinner coincides with one of the city’s dynamic, historic art markets: the 61st annual Traditional Spanish Market and the 90th annual Santa Fe Indian Market – providing an unforgettable, authentic experience of Santa Fe culture. On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, respected Native American artists the Namingha family – Dan, Arlo and Michael – will partner with cookbook authors and culinary adventurers Bill and Cheryl Jamison to create a one-of-a-kind menu. The dinner will be held in a stunning private estate on Old Santa Fe Trail in Santa Fe, NM. Proceeds from these events will benefit the Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools and the City of Santa Fe Arts Commission’s Artist Exhibit and Education Program. Partners in Education raises funds to support Santa Fe’s public school teachers and students. The Arts Commission nurtures and supports Santa Fe’s unique artistic and cultural heritage.

With their deep understanding of Spanish art, food and culture, santero artist Arthur Lopez and chef James Campbell Caruso will create an evening that invokes New Mexico’s unique Spanish roots while celebrating the contemporary expression of those roots. A five-time James Beard Award nominee and one of only four chefs nominated to compete in the “Copa Jerez International Food and Sherry Pairing Competition,” James Campbell Caruso is a master of Basque/Spanish cuisine. His restaurant, La Boca, winner of the International Wine and Food Society’s Award of Excellence, is packed nightly. España: Exploring the Flavors of Spain, his newest cookbook, is now available.
Born and raised in Santa Fe, Arthur López is among the finest santeros (saint-maker) working in the proud heritage of traditional Spanish Colonial artwork – a form unique to New Mexico. His work both reflects this legacy and transcends the bounds of tradition, expressing the full range of his culture and the world around him. His work is exhibited throughout the Southwest, including Manitou Galleries, and avidly sought by museums and private collectors.

This dinner will showcase the ancient and contemporary culture of the American Southwest, hosted by one of our foremost Native artist families and four-time James Beard Award-winning chefs/cookbook authors. Dan Namingha is from the Tewa-Hopi tribe. He has been showing professionally as an artist for over forty years. His works command unwavering respect for the earth and spirit of his ancestry, the beautiful heritage that is the heart of his creativity. He is constantly drawn to his roots so
deeply embedded in ceremony, yet allows us only a guarded glimpse of his sacred traditions. Arlo Namingha works in woods, clay, cast bronze, fabricated bronze and stone, creating work that reflects his Tewa/Hopi background. Michael Namingha works in the medium of digital inkjet images printed on canvas and paper, as well as numerous types of installations. He currently serves as a City of Santa Fe Arts Commissioner. The Naminghas’ own and operate Niman Fine Art in Santa Fe, NM.
Authors of more than a dozen cookbooks and culinary adventure tales, and winners of four James Beard Awards, Cheryl and Bill Jamison celebrate the wonderful world of food all around the globe. At this dinner, they will showcase delights from New Mexico’s rich multicultural culinary heritage, featuring recipes from their new book, Tasting New Mexico.
