Cara Castronuova, trainer on the NBC TV show “The Biggest Loser-Couples” will be visiting Camp Shane, the longest running weight loss camp for kids and teens, on Friday, July 20th, 2012.

She will be there to announce “The Cara Castronuova Get Fit Grant” which her Knockout Obesity Foundation is co-sponsoring with Camp Shane to afford camp sessions (room and board included) to the camp for three lucky applicants.

The winning campers completed a questionnaire detailing why they would like to attend Camp Shane, as well as other questions about how they enjoy learning and why they would like to lose weight. Winners were chosen by Castronuova herself.

The grant winners are David Sloush, who will attend for nine weeks. David lost his mother two years ago and lives with his dad. His sister helped him with the application. The second winner is Lauren Despins who will attend for six weeks. Cara was impressed with Lauren's determination and letter writing campaign! And the third winner is Anthony Rogers who lives with his grandmother and would like to lose weight to help get him back on track with school and a hopeful acting career.

While visiting Camp Shane, located in the Catskill Mountains of New York, Castronuova will present a motivating talk, share a healthy meal with campers and run a fitness class with an emphasis on her specialty of boxing and pugilism.

Castronuova is a two-time New York Golden Gloves Champion, a licensed boxing trainer and a former USA Boxing Coach. She brings the lessons learned in the ring to bear in her work as a certified personal trainer.

“I am able to understand the hardships people have experienced and push them to get back up again,” Castronuova says.  ”A fighter gets back up, no matter what.”

On Saturday, July 21st, Castronuova will also visit the parents of the Camp Shane campers at Shane Diet & Fitness Resorts, the companion adult weight loss resort program, held at Honor’s Haven Resort & Spa in nearby Ellenville, New York. She will share her own boxing experience and her belief that the sport is a fantastic full-body workout to help lose weight. Castronuova finds that such workouts help condition, tone and strengthen people’s physiques and can help both the campers and their parents to achieve and maintain fitness.

“I heard about Camp Shane for many years as I was growing up. I did significant research and believe that Camp Shane is the very best weight loss camp. I love children and want to help kids that are overweight lose weight. I am truly delighted to be able to partner with Camp Shane to offer this chance to kids who want to lose weight, get healthy and face their future with pride, by being the best they can be," says Castronuova.

“Our counselors, fitness gurus, and nutrition experts will give them the tools they need to change their lives,” says David Ettenberg, co-founder of the camp. "Camp Shane is not a 'fat camp,' but a place where kids learn how to eat, exercise through enjoyable activities, and get into the best shapes of their lives--while having more fun than they've ever had. They gain the confidence that comes with taking charge of their own bodies. Cara will be an inspiration to them.”
