Because we’re a local company and because Portland is a key hub of the open source movement with some of its biggest players living here, we’re honored to be part of OSCON.
Vancouver, WA (PRWEB) July 13, 2012
Domain.com, a global leader in domain registration and web hosting solutions, today announces it will exhibit at next week’s OSCON, the world’s premier open source software event. OSCON, which kicks off Monday, July 16th in Portland, Oregon, attracts a global audience of over 3,000 industry luminaries, open source rock stars, hackers, and developers to share and collaborate on the hottest open source projects.
Often referred to as the “United Nations” of programming, the five day conference covers every popular open source subject including cloud development, web security, Python, Perl, PHP, and much more. Domain.com will support proponents of open source software with free domain names, t-shirts, and pounds of snacks for powering the latest open source inspirations. OSCON attendees should stop by booth P5 in the Innovators’ Pavilion to learn how Domain.com’s platform can power their projects.
“A large portion of Domain.com’s infrastructure runs on open source, and we’re inspired by the brilliant minds who make open source a reality,” said David Andrews, Marketing Director for Domain.com. “Because we’re a local company and because Portland is a key hub of the open source movement with some of its biggest players living here, we’re honored to be part of OSCON.”
Industry insiders and attendees should stop by Domain.com’s booth on Wednesday and Thursday to participate in its open source powered Arduino based candy machine challenge. The machine, a three-foot plexiglass tower of treats fitted with a custom-made sensor that monitors and tweets out real-time attendee candy consumption, also distributes prizes. Participants are invited to grab a treat and enter their name to win a prize. Every time the candy level drops two inches, a new winner is selected.
For those who won’t be in Portland to visit OSCON firsthand, it’s still possible to participate in the open source giveaway. Tweet @domaindotcom using hashtag #OSCON with why you love open source or how you’ve been influenced by open source. Every hour during the event, Domain.com will randomly select a winner and feature the tweet.
