“We thought that James and Dee would be a great match because they were looking for the same thing. They were both looking for a friend at first and wanted to wait and see where things went from there."

Great Expectations works hard to help their members find long-term lasting relationships, and it comes with delight to announce that Great Expectations Orlando once again succeed by bringing together two amazing people, proving that even those with physical hardships can rise above and find love.

Dee, who has lost most of her vision and has undergone multiple surgeries to try and have it corrected, came to Great Expectations after leaving her husband. She was afraid that no one would want to date her because she was partially blind. After meeting with Lori DeJesus, Orlando’s Director, she decided to go ahead and give love another try. She knew from the beginning that whoever the membership brought into her life, she wanted to be sure she found friendship in that person before a relationship.

James Russell is an injured military veteran who lost one of his legs during war. After grieving the loss of his wife he decided he wanted to find someone to share his days with. James had the same reservations as Dee, worrying that because he is wheel-chaired bound with only one leg that no one would give him a chance either. When James came into Great Expectations he met with DeJesus as well, and during Jim’s interview the entire office was talking about how James and Dee would be perfect for each other. DeJesus even stepped out of her office to call Dee to see if it would be ok to show James her profile and Dee said she would be fine with it. “We thought that James and Dee would be a great match because they were looking for the same thing. They were both looking for a friend at first and wanted to wait and see where things went from there,” said DeJesus.

James and Dee’s first date consisted of meeting for breakfast and spending the day together. Companionship and someone to travel with is what Dee and James wanted to find in a partner more than anything, and that is exactly what they found in each other. “We knew that they would be really good with for another because James is very outgoing and Dee is a little shy at first. We knew that once they got to know each other better they would really complement one another,” said DeJesus.

According to DeJesus, James knew after their first date that this was the woman for him. After about a month courtship, James proposed to Dee while driving home from one of their trips this past March. “He was sitting behind the wheel when he asked me, I told him he had to ask me again later and he did. I said yes!” said Dee. The couple recently tied the knot in Daytona on June 16th.

DeJesus has continued to keep in touch with the Russell’s on a regular basis, even being invited to attend the wedding, but unable to attend due to prior engagements. The couple both said that if you’re looking for a relationship, but scared to get out there and try, then call Great Expectations, they’re there to help.
