It was my grandfather’s vision to create a place that would become the backbone of its community in supporting a secular, Jewish way of life. Sid Jacobson JCC has fulfilled that vision.

Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center will honor Erik Gershwind at its 27th Annual Golf & Tennis Outing, presented by MSC Industrial Supply Co., on Monday, August 6 at The Glen Oaks Club (175 Post Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568). The event raises funds for the JCC’s vital social services, including day programs for individuals with Alzheimer’s and a summer camp for children with special needs. In addition to its ever-popular golf and tennis offerings, this year’s Outing has a new games component, including mah jongg, canasta and bridge.
“It was my grandfather’s vision to create a place that would become the backbone of its community in supporting a secular, Jewish way of life,” Gershwind said. “Sid Jacobson JCC has fulfilled that vision. It is the ultimate privilege to serve as this year’s honoree and carry on his legacy.”
Gershwind has been a driving force in the development of Sid Jacobson JCC and the Jewish community for over 20 years. He sits on the Long Range Planning Committee for Bernice Jacobson Day School & Camp, as well as UJA-Federation of New York’s Long Island New Leadership Committee. He also serves on the board of directors for the Gershwind and Jacobson charitable foundations, Fresh Meadow Country Club of Great Neck and is the vice-chairman of the University of Pennsylvania Libraries Board of Overseers. Professionally, Gershwind is the President and Chief Operating Officer for MSC Industrial Direct Supply Co., located in Melville, Long Island.
