Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval designates September as Cardiometabolic Risk Awareness Month, further supporting the Primary Care Cardiometabolic Risk Summit

Cardiometabolic Risk Awareness Month highlights the need for continuing education in the primary care setting to combat these risk factors.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed a proclamation designating September as Cardiometabolic Risk Awareness Month in conjunction with the Primary Care Cardiometabolic Risk Summit to be held September 7-9, 2012 at Bally’s Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. State recognition of the crucial nature of cardiometabolic risk awareness calls attention to the need for increasing education for primary care practitioners on the risks associated with cardiometabolic syndrome.

Cardiovascular disease—already a nationwide epidemic—is exacerbated by cardiometabolic syndrome, a constellation of risk factors including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity. Cardiometabolic Risk Awareness Month highlights the need for continuing education in the primary care setting to combat these risk factors.

Primary care practitioners are in an optimal position to mitigate the effects of cardiometabolic risk by using aggressive methods for early identification and comprehensive treatment of patients who present with multiple cardiometabolic risk factors. Recognizing the essential role of primary care in reducing the prevalence of cardiometabolic risk, primary care physicians, internists, general practitioners, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified diabetes educators, and other related healthcare professionals have been registering to attend the inaugural Cardiometabolic Risk Summit.

Accredited by North American Center for Continuing Medical Education, LLC, and managed by HMP Communications, the Cardiometabolic Risk Summit is the only national, multi-day conference specifically designed to help healthcare providers in the primary care setting reduce cardiometabolic risk. The Cardiometabolic Risk Summit provides a unique forum in which the primary care healthcare team can learn about the latest clinical strategies for and up-to-date research on preventing and managing diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, obesity, and related conditions.
