Iconic candy rocket Astro Pops® launched at the flagship store of Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York City and Powell’s Sweet Shoppe in Laguna Niguel, Calif. to record sales. Astro Pops® were already known as the longest lasting lollipop on earth when the previous manufacturer, Spangler Candy, discontinued the product line in 2004.

There has been an 8 year hiatus since consumers have been able to purchase Astro Pops® in the marketplace, and legions of fans were patiently anticipating its debut back in the marketplace. “It has taken almost 2 years to perfect the recipe and we already have over 12,000 Facebook fans that have been waiting to get a hold of the first production pieces of Astro Pops®,” said Leaf Brands CEO Ellia Kassoff.

The East Coast launch took place at Dylan's Candy Bar, a chain of boutique candy shops with locations in New York City, East Hampton and Houston and owed by Dylan Lauren, daughter of fashion designer Ralph Lauren. It has become a famous destination for tourists and locals alike in the city, and has also been featured in television and movies based in New York. The store averages about 5,000 customers on a regular Saturday.

Dylan’s Candy Bar sold out of their entire weekend shipment in that one Saturday launch. “Fans flew in from all parts of the country to be the first to sample the new Astro Pops®,” says Kassoff. “We had one family from Georgia who came to New York and Dylan’s specifically just to buy an entire display case!”

Astro Pops® also had a West Coast launch at Powell’s Sweet Shoppe in Laguna Niguel, CA. Over 1,500 people came to Powell’s to celebrate their 4th year anniversary, and be one of the first West Coasters to try an Astro Pop®. “Once again, we had people driving for hours, just to buy their first Astro pop in 8 years.” “Boxes of the pops seem to fly off shelves!” Kassoff commented.

As part of the launch festivities, there were raffles and contests throughout the day, with giveaways of the fun Astro Pops® apparel, baseball caps, balloons, and temporary tattoos.

Both Dylan’s and Powell’s will sell the larger 1.5 oz. Specialty/Candy Store Edition Astro Pops®. The larger pop will only be available in specialty and candy stores. Later in the year, the original 1 oz. size pop will be available through larger drug and supermarket chains.

According to industry analysts, Astro Pops® are forecasted to be the #1 nostalgic candy for 2012 and 2013. Initial sales numbers of the product are on-track to achieve that forecast.
